Last night, as usual, before I slept I looked at the night sky, and whoa there were many stars. So I turned on the comp to check Stellarium. And then I played a bit then at about 3.20AM I was about to sleep, and I looked at the sky oncemore.
I was looing at the Southern Cross, when all of a sudden out of nowhere with no warning a bright object whizzed to the right of the constellation (downwards). I was like, OMG, did I just see a meteor? But it was really bright and really big, way bigger then those that I had seen on Bintan, and this is Singapore which is much brighter. But I do hope it's a meteor... It'd be so amazing. (And once again I forgot to make a wish.
Well I checked Wikipedia. It says "The Alpha Centaurids are a meteor shower in the constellation Centaurus, peaking in early February each year. The average magnitude is around 2.5, with a peak of about three meteors an hour." The timing is right, and I suppose the location is right too. I mean, to the right of the Southern Cross will be approx the hindleg of the Centaur right? But then this meteor shower doesn't seem to be observed very often eh: "They have been observed since 1969, with a single possible recorded observation in 1938. There was a report of a viewing in 1988, but it was not real. " And the intensity is medium, while the Geminids I'd seen on Bintan were strong.
