容疑者Xの献身

石神哲哉 (Ishigami), a high school Maths teacher. A friend of Yukawa at university. Highly brilliant, but taught maths to a bunch of high school kids who didn't pay attention. Because his parents were ill.

花岡靖子Yasuko's jerk of an ex-husband (Togashi) visited one day to ask for money. He said some nasty stuff, 美里 tried to hit him with a crystal globe but failed. He was angry and tried to hit her. In the struggle, they killed him.

(As in all other episodes of Galileo, most of those who died really deserved to be dead. They's all jerks.)

Ishigami heard the commotion and came over. He decided to help her.

(Go watch the movie it's really nice!)

On his way to work Ishigami would pass by this long stretch of homeless people. He walked pass the place again with Yukawa, and commented that these people were like the gears of a clock. (I noticed that one of the homeless was missing) He then said that Yukawa still looked very young and he envied him. That was when Yukawa realised that Ishigami was in love, because a guy like him had never bothered with his looks.

Being the genius that he was, Ishigami helped Yasuko create alibi. The police totally had no evidence against her.

Yukawa and Ishigami went climbing together. While in a cabin, Yukawa commented that he hadn't expected Ishigami to invite him to climb a mountain. Ishigami replied that he might not have the chance to do so again in the future.
Ishigami knew that Yukawa was suspecting him and asked him to discuss his conjecture. When Yukawa did not answer he asked him why. Yukawa said, "Because you're my friend." Ishigami replied, "I have no friend."

A guy (Kudo) whom Yasuko had previously received favours from (she used to be a hostess) appeared. He appeared to be interested in Yasuko. Ishigami followed them and took a picture of their meeting. He attached the photo together with a message to Kudo: Stay away from Yasuko. You cannot give her happiness.

Yasuko was freaked out and snapped when her daughter suggested that Ishigami would be unhappy that Yasuko was seeing another man and that he was helping them because he had fallen in love with her. "So I'll have to live the rest of my life listening to him? Wouldn't that be the same as replacing Togashi with Ishigami?!" She avoided calls from Ishigami. Her daughter snatched the phone and accidentally pressed the answer button. It was Ishigami. He said, "This will be my last contact with you. :( I've left two letters in your mailbox, one white and one tea-coloured. Keep the white one; it'll be useful in the future. Read the tea-coloured letter and destroy it immediately."

Ishigami turned himself in to the police, admitting to the murder of Togashi.

Yukawa visited Yasuko and said, "You really did visited the cinema on 2nd Dec, didn't you? That's why you were able to withstand the police's questioning. But how did you do that? Because you murdered Togashi on 1st Dec, not 2nd Dec." He went on to tell her the sacrifice of Ishigami that she hadn't known.

(ah this is so sad...)

To help create her alibi, Ishigami committed another murder. That way there was no turning back for him when he was to take the rap for Yasuko. He killed one of the homeless. That was the body the police had found, face beaten beyond recognition, fingerprints burnt. Yukawa argued that the truth would come to light when Togashi's body was found. Ishigami replied that by the time that happened his trial would have been over, and as long as he did not appeal, the case was closed.

(while Ishigami was transferred to the prison)
Yukawa: "It's a pity...You have such a brilliant mind... why do you have to use it for something like this?"
Ishigami (sad smile): "Only you, Yukawa, would say something like that to me..."
Yukawa: "Why? Why are you willing to help her?"
Ishigami left the room and slammed the door. It was the first time the usually calm and logical professor lost his composure and cried for his lost friend. :(

The white letter provided evidence to the police that Ishigami was stalking Yasuko, and that was why he killed her ex-husband. The tea-coloured letter was his personal message to her, teaching her how to deal with the police after this was over and eventually she would get back to her normal life. He thanked her.
(flashback:
Ishigami had decided to end his meaningless life. Just as he was about to hang himself the doorbell rang. It was his new neighbor, Yasuko and her daughter 美里. Their arrival brought warmth to his life.)
He then said that Kudo was a nice and honest man who would give Yasuko happiness. He asked her to forget him and not to feel any guilt or apology... Or his sacrifice would have been for nothing.

(If you were Yasuko what would you do? Will you let Ishigami sacrifice and live your life in guilt, or will you admit to your crime? It was such a hard choice.)

Nearing the exit of the building Ishigami saw Yakuso. She apologised and said that she would pay the price for her crime. Ishigami broke down and cried in desperation?anguish? Yakuso could only cry and say sorry as he was taken away.

Yukawa and Utsumi returned to the university and sat on the bench where Yukawa had met Ishigami 17 years ago. Yukawa said that Ishigami may not have committed the crime if he hadn't fallen in love. Utsumi said that Yasuko had healed Ishigami. It then began to snow...

Out at the sea, the police discovered a broken piece of crystal globe...

(Argh it's just so sad...)
